Reviews
taters Café is one of the best cafés in Dallas. The food may not be appealing to the eye, but it is hands-down, the best and Dallas
So I've been here many times now, having moved into the area. It's always been really great food and a great place to bring out of town visitors. It's small, so on weekends or holidays, expect a long wait. Generally, you put your name and phone number on a list and wait in your car or outside and they'll get a hold of you. So that works. The seating area is both indoors and outdoors (weather permitting) and is a combination of booths and tables. The menu is standard lunch and breakfast American fare, and while not necessarily "elevated," it's of a higher quality than you'd get at a chain restaurant. For example, they keep a homemade bread on hand for toast or sandwiches, which is thick and weighty, and pretty damn good. I always tend to have trouble ordering here, only because of the mix of things. Once I had the cheese blintzes and they were incredible, although sweet and I don't generally have sweet foods in the morning. But that's a preference; the food itself was amazing and I ate all of it. The bacon is always huge slabs and meaty, not fatty. The chicken fried steak is a weighty piece of meat, battered and fried, with a thick gravy. I'll also sometimes go for the French dip, and it's a huge roll with an incredibly thick stack of beef in the middle, alongside a very tasty au jus. As for sides, at breakfast you have your usual bacon, sausage, etc. For lunch, there's a huge litany of potato styles or accompaniments. Like fries, regular or curly, tater tots, onion rings, etc. And they all come out very good. There is one incident that I also thinks speaks to the nature of the restaurant. I was there once on my own and, after ordering, was waiting and waiting. A table that came in after me was seated, ordered, and received their food and I was still waiting. The owner came to me after seeing that I was there for a long time with no food and asked about it. I told her I was still waiting. Well, I don't know the exact details but somehow my ticket got lost or delivered to the wrong table or something. She expedited my order and then told me that everything would be comped. And she did, too, despite me telling her it wasn't necessary. Attention to details does go a long way, though. I've never had a bad food experience here so far and I've tried several different things. Guests I've brought here have enjoyed it themselves, and my kids just love the place. Definitely glad to have it in my area.
I LOVE Tater's!!!! The best breakfast spot!!! Cozy and homey. Staff is awesome! They get super busy so we call in takeout sometimes but Sundays after church is our tradition Super yummy!!!!!
Though the wait was a little long, the food was certainly WORTH IT and the building was sooo cute!
We love going here for breakfast! The servers are great and the food is amazing! It's a cozy small town feeling. We would recommend anyone who hasn't been there should check them out. Don't forget to order the bacon!!
